Das Gastmahl

A work of art travels around the world: »Symposion - or waiting for the guest« by Belgian star artist Erose Task is finally coming to Aachen after stops in Barcelona, Warsaw and Marseille! Plato's »Symposion«, the famous ancient text in which a drinking society negotiates concepts of love and desire in eulogies, has been transformed into a permanent musical and installation performance. The new director of the exhibition hall where »Symposion« is to be shown has taken over the project from her dishonorably dismissed predecessor and now has to make do with the performers that the absent artist selected for the Aachen exhibition.

In his new piece »Das Gastmahl«, director Jakab Tarnóczi allows two levels - a fictional work of art and its context, the exhibition - to enter into a multi-layered, sensual dialog. This is Tarnóczi's first production in Germany. He is part of the artistic management team of the Katona Jószef Theater in Budapest and has long been one of the outstanding talents of a younger generation of theater makers in his native Hungary. His project »Melancholy Rooms« was invited to the Lessing Days at Hamburg's Thalia Theater in February 2023.
