Miriam Unterthiner’s new play »Blutbrot«, winner of the 2025 Kleist Prize for Young Playwrights, addresses an almost forgotten chapter of history: along the so-called »ratline«, a number of high-ranking Nazi officials fled in 1945 to escape prosecution – with the help of the local population in South Tyrol. The play explores our responsibility to remember and confront collective guilt.
