Michael Köpke studied scenography and audiovisual media from 1997 to 2003 in Utrecht, Prague, Berlin-Weißensee, Paris and Karlsruhe. From 2005 to 2010, he assisted for various productions at the Thalia Theater Hamburg, especially the stage designer Annette Kurz. Since then, he has designed sets for directors Gernot Grünewald, Jonas Knecht and Frank Abt, and has worked with directors Sandy Lopičić, Alia Luque, Hakan Savaş Mican, Dominic Oley, Leyla Rabih, Felix Rothenhäusler, Marco Štorman and choreographer Marcel Leemann. His work has taken him to the Thalia Theater Hamburg, Deutsche Theater Berlin, Bühnen Bern, Theater Bremen, Theater St. Gallen, Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Theater Lübeck, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Staatstheater Wiesbaden and Schauspielhaus Wien, among others. »Magic Monsters« is his first collaboration with director Dominic Friedel.
