Born in Belgium, Dutchman Jori Klomp is a saxophonist, singer and conductor. In 2013, he completed his Bachelor's degree in classical saxophone at the Maastricht Conservatory. A year later followed his Bachelor in solo singing and in 2018 his Master in choral conducting at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht with Rob Vermeulen. Jori Klomp is regularly active as a conductor and language trainer at Opera Zuid in Maastricht and has been passionately teaching choral conducting and choral education to the students of the Music in Education programme at the Maastricht Conservatory since 2020. Since August 2018, he has been choral director at Theater Aachen, where he is responsible for the Opera Choir, the Extra Choir, the Symphonic Choir and the Children's Choir. He has also been Kapellmeister since the 19.20 season. He regularly gives guest performances as choral director at the opera house La Monnaie/De Munt in Brussels and at the Opera en Ballet van Vlaanderen in Antwerp.

Why do you do theatre?
I love people, voices, mood, story, passion and ambition. It all comes together in opera.

Where do you feel at home?
In Scandinavia.

What profession would you have chosen in a parallel universe?
I would be a politician.
