Irina Popova was born in Bulgaria, studied piano and flute and completed her vocal studies at the Sofia Academy in 1995. She won the "International Media Prize" at the International Belvedere Competition in Vienna. Her first engagement took her to the Lucerne Theatre. She has also made guest appearances at the Volksoper Wien, the theatres in Klagenfurt, Bielefeld, Kaiserslautern, Mannheim, Freiburg, Schwerin and Basel. Since the 05.06 season, she has been engaged at the Aachen Theatre. During the 23.24 season, for example, she performed in »Vom Fischer und seiner Frau«, »Il viaggio a Reims«, and »Lady Tartuffe«.
Last season, 24.25, she appeared in »Orphée aux enfers«, among other productions. In the current season, she is appearing on stage as Larina in »Eugene Onegin«, as the Queen of Hearts in »Alice im WUnderland« and in »Herzog Blaubarts Burg« among other roles.
