Born in Busan (South Korea) in 1991, Chanmin Chung received extensive instruction in piano, violin, clarinet, trumpet and flute. He studied composition at the Seoul Arts High School and from 2013 at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar with professors such as Nicolás Pasquet, Ekhart Wycik, Gunter Kahlert and Ulrich Vogel. With a Master's degree, he continued his studies in orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Leipzig with Prof. Matthias Foremny in 2019. He gained experience as a musical assistant with the LJSO Hessen under Johannes Braun and the LJO Berlin under Johannes Klumpp, at the Theater Nordhausen and working with Lorenzo Viotti at the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE). Chung was accepted into the German Music Council's Forum Dirigieren support programme in 2018 and reached the Critical Orchestra as a finalist. He participated in conducting masterclasses with renowned conductors such as Gabriel Feltz, Jorma Panula, Kristiina Poska, Christian Thielemann and Simone Young. From 2017 to 2021, he served as Second Kapellmeister and Assistant GMD at Theater Erfurt. Since the 21.22 season, he has been First Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director at Theater Aachen. In season 23.24 he will conduct »Il viaggio a Reims«, »Zaïde/Adama«, »La Bohème« and concerts.
